Haverhill pick up first away points

Thursday, 2nd November 2000.

HAVERHILL Rovers blasted away from the bottom five of Division One by picking up their first away points of the season.
A goal from Paul Jenkins after just 96 seconds set Paul Goodman's side on the way to a crucial 2-1 victory at Brightlingsea.
Jenkins headed in a cross from Neil Hammond, the keeper getting his hand to it, but was unable to keep it out.
Six minutes later Haverhill doubled their advantage when a James Duke corner found Derrin Brindley who chested the ball down before smashing it home.
The hosts pulled a goal back on 19 minutes after Rovers' centre-half James Fitzpatrick pulled down Lee Race. Bradley Hipkin hammered in the spot-kick.
Either side of the break Mark Brandt went close to putting the tie beyond Brightlingsea. Firstly, the home keeper saved at Brandt's feet when he was through on goal, then on 50 minutes a speculative shot struck the crossbar.
But Goodman admitted his side had keeper David Dickson, who made a series of outstanding saves in the second half, to thank for ensuring they kept all three points.
"It was nice to get back to winning ways," Goodman said. "It was also nice to get three points in the league. But I was disappointed. We did not play very well at all."
Goodman said he had no complaints about the penalty, adding: "It happened so quickly. It is difficult for referees. Even on the bench half of us thought it was and the other half did not.
"The second half was one way traffic. We were camped in our own half. Dickson made a string of saves. He is in good form at the moment."
The only time Dickson was beaten was by Steffan Falla on 64 minutes, but his shot struck the post
