Haverhill Tennis Club - Red and Orange Mini Tennis Day

Monday, 19th October 2015.

Haverhill Tennis Club held a brilliant tournament at the weekend with 19 children taking part in the 2 events with 51 matches being played.

The Red Mini event had 7 children competing with the children all playing each other in a round robin event. Alfie Paffett and Riley Pector-Hird represented Haverhill. Riley was unlucky in his first match, narrowly losing to eventual third place Sophie 12-10. Alfie won all his matches apart from a very close match with Toby Blunden which he lost 10-7. Toby won the event, with Alfie second and Sophie Johnstone third. All the children took home a bag of goodies.

The orange event had 4 round robin boxes followed by a compass draw of 8 players. Ryan Hunt, Freddie Paffett and James Howard from Haverhill progressed to the main draw. Murron McCulloch, Daniel Quarrell and William Chen also played for Haverhill in their first orange tournament where they competed in some extra rating matches with Daniel and William managing some fine wins. Freddie played a convincing game against Ryan to make his way through to the semi-final. James Howard beat third seed Florence Pritchard 8-6, 7-3 in a closely fought match. Freddie and James played a marathon semi-final with Freddie eventually winning the match 7-3, 17-15. In the top half of the draw, top seed Joseph Fortnum-Adams beat Thomas Birks 7-3, 7-4 and then Jackson Johnstone in a tight match 9-7, 7-1. James Howard then played probably his best match to claim third spot, winning 7-3, 7-4. Joseph then lived up to his number one rating and beat Freddie in two very close sets 7-4, 8-6. The event was very well supported by the players families and club volunteers helped run a very successful event.
