Ho, ho, ho - it's a record for Round Tablers

Thursday, 4th January 2001.

HAVERHILL'S Round Table is celebrating its most successful Christmas fundraising event yet after its annual Christmas sleigh pulled in a hefty £3,200.
Members of the Round Table visited homes all over the town in the two weeks before Christmas to collect money, and spent the Saturday before Christmas in the town centre, when generous shoppers boosted the total by £971.
Some of the money will go towards paying for a new vehicle for St John Ambulance in Haverhill, and the rest will be kept in the Round Table's pot for individual groups.
Paul Donno, chairman of Haverhill's Round Table, said: "It's a staggering amount. We've been taking the sleigh out for the past 20 years or so and we usually average about £2,400, but this is really pleasing and it's because we've got more members."
This year the Round Table chose St John Ambulance as its main charity but it will also be donating smaller amounts to individual groups who write in.
It will also host the annual OAPs' tea dance in the New Year.
