House sale could lead to new properties

Wednesday, 26th May 2004.

Four new flats could be built in Haverhill, if Havebury Housing goes ahead with plans to sell a vacant house in Mill Road.

The house which became part of Haverbury’s stock would, according to a report to be presented to the Borough Council’s cabinet on June 2, will cost £70,000 to refurbish.

The proposal is to sell the two-bedroomed property, for around £60,000 to £70,000 and then use money raised to refurbish two properties in Haverhill High Street to provide two one-bedroomed flats and two bedsits.

At the next cabinet meeting members will be asked to invest the money they receive from the sale in to the more affordable housing project.

Two homes would be used for people on the West Suffolk Housing Register and two for much needed move-on accommodation for vulnerable people from facilities such as The Limes and The Cangle. The report adds that as well as helping those who are ready to move on, the accommodation would also free up units for single, vulnerable homeless people who come to the council for help.
