Housing chief to talk to town businesses

Wednesday, 2nd June 2010.

The new chief executive of Haverhill's biggest housing association will be the guest speaker for business people at a networking event this month.

The Best of Haverhill business website will hold its next business meeting on Thursday, June 17, at The Days Inn, Haverhill from 10am to 11.30am, when the speaker will be the new head of Havebury Housing Partnership.

Continuing with the website's theme of Wanting The Best For Haverhill, Karen Mayhew, the recently appointed chief executive of Havebury Housing Partnership has been invited to talk about the role that Havebury plays in the town.

The not-for-profit housing association has just under 3,000 homes in Haverhill and the surrounding villages and has invested £25 million in its housing stock in these areas since 2002.

Elaine Carr, owner of The Best of Haverhill said: “Havebury play an important role within Haverhill. They are the largest landlord in the town providing good quality homes for many families who are employed by local businesses as well as homes for the elderly and the vulnerable.

"Where possible, Havebury work with local businesses to deliver new homes and services in the area, which helps to generate and retain wealth within the local economy.

"Havebury are also committed to community projects and their Community Investment Fund has enabled a number of projects to get off the ground.

"As local businesses, I think it is important that we understand the scope and roles of the different stakeholders in the town. Havebury is a major stakeholder and has very clear plans for future development in Haverhill.”

Karen Mayhew has worked in housing in St Edmundsbury for more than 25 years, and was assistant director of housing under director Steve Cook for the council before Havebury was formed and they took on similar roles within it.

Mr Cook retired last month and his deputy has now taken charge of the partnership.
