Important Message For Tots

Thursday, 4th May 2006.

Sirens were wailing outside a pre-school group but only to mark the end of a visit by a policewoman spreading the "Stranger Danger" message to the children.

Pc Stephanie Roe went along to the Samuel Ward pre-school group at Haverhill to meet a group of about 20 under-fives and explain to them the importance of not wandering off with anyone. The youngsters got to try on a police helmet and examine a set of handcuffs, before Pc Roe and a colleague left in a police van with lights flashing and sirens wailing.

Shonagh Shipp, who chairs the group, said the visit was a great success.

"The children all thoroughly enjoyed themselves, but there were some hands on ears when the siren went off because it was so loud." Shonagh said.

The group meets at its own premises at Samuel Ward Arts and Technology College and some places will be available in September.
