Joint charity casino night raises cash for hospice

Wednesday, 28th August 2013.

A charity casino evening held at Haverhill Golf Club raised £860.50 for St Nicholas Hospice Care.

The black tie event was organised by Jacobs Allen Chartered Accountants & Chartered Tax Advisors and thebestof Haverhill to raise money for St Nicholas Hospice Care as part of the Towergate Accumulator Challenge that Jacobs Allen are taking part in.

Last year Jacobs Allen won the Accumulator Challenge, beating around 50 other businesses from West Suffolk and raising nearly £9,500 for the hospice through a variety of fund raising events.

Paul Donno of Jacobs Allen said: “This is the fourth year that we have joined forces with the bestof Haverhill to host a summer fundraising event in Haverhill for the hospice.

"Although numbers were down on previous years the generosity of our guests ensured that we raised a decent amount for the charity.

"I would like to thank all those people who supported the event by providing prizes for our mini auction and raffle; making donations; buying tickets and getting into the spirit of the event on the night by buying raffle tickets and playing the roulette and black jack tables.”

The gaming tables and croupiers were provided by local entertainment company Circuit Entertainments and owner Eric Armstrong was on hand to amaze guests with his card tricks.

Ashley Green, a guest of local letting agency Preview Property Services, won the £50 cash prize for the highest winnings.

Ashley was presented with his prize by Katie Donno who had the job of selling raffle tickets and chips to the guests during the evening.

Elaine Carr from thebestof Haverhill said: “Despite a lower turnout than in previous years the evening went well and we were really pleased with the amount raised for the hospice. Again this year people were very generous in their support of the charity.

"Haverhill Golf Club provided a lovely venue for the event and many of our guests enjoyed a drink on the patio during the early part of the evening.

"We also had local singer Jade Donno to entertain us with a selection of her own songs and cover versions of some of her favourite artists. It was a very enjoyable evening for a cause that touches so many people.”
