Junior golfer leads the way in boggy conditions

Tuesday, 1st March 2011.

The Men’s IFF Challenge was played at Haverhill Golf Club on Wednesday, February 23, in wet weather, with a reduced field of just 11 competitors.

Haverhill junior James Higham won the event overall with an incredible nett 69 despite the conditions, and has had his handicap cut by two shots.

The full results were: Division One, 1 Lewis Whiting 82-9-73; 2 Liam Merritt 86-10-76; 3 Dave Pipe 82-6-76.

Division Two, 1 Dan Wilkins 93-20-73; 2 Martin Mansfield 96-18-78.

Division Three, 1 James Higham 94-25-69; 2 Paul Mower 104-28-76; 3 Charlie Tapp 104-28-76.

On Sunday, February 27, the men’s medal was played in similarly boggy conditions, although there were some incredible scores returned.

Dan Wilkins managed to shoot an impressive nett 63 to take the overall prize.

The full results were: Division One, 1 Mel Stuart 72-6-66 (lowest gross); 2 Jim Walker 76-10-66; 3 Gary Baird 78-10-68.

Division Two, 1 Dan Wilkins 82-19-63; 2 Kim Ward 81-14-67; 3 Alan Law 90-19-71.

Division Three, 1 Andrew S Martin 103-21-82; 2 Terry Pinckney 103-21-82; 3 Richard Peck 105-21-84.
