Keep burglars away from your expensive Christmas presents

Monday, 9th January 2012.

A warning to keep sheds, garages and outhouses secure has gone out after another spate of burglaries in Haverhill.

Police are concerned that new items received as Christmas presents may be targeted.

In the last montn alone there have been ten such burglaries reported in Haverhill, with bicycles, power tools and computer equipmenmt among the items stolen.

PC Richard Oldroyd of Haverhill Safer Neighbourhood Team said the advice was to make sure buildings were securely locked, install motion-sensitive lighting in the garden and make sure access to gardens is secure.

Also peopl;e are advised to have valuable new Christmas presents marked with ultra-violet ink, showing a postcode, and to have pictures of them taken for easy identification if they are stolen.

Haverhill SNT currently has a priority set around business premises and outbuildings in Haverhill town centre after a series of burglaries.

There has been success with business premises where levels of offences have fallen drastically, but the incidence in sheds and outhouses has significantly increased.
