Keeping schools in the picture

Thursday, 8th November 2001.

SOME impressive artwork will be gracing the walls of local schools who were the latest recipients of Sainsbury’s Pictures fro Schools scheme.

Teachers and pupils from Chalkstone Middle School, Samuel Ward Upper School and Linton Village College visited Sainsbury’s store in Haverhill this week to collect their paintings.

Store manager Simon Green and Debra Green, personnel and training manager, handed over our paintings and a teaching pack to each school.

They received reproductions of The Snowstorm, by Joseph Turner, Children Reading Comics by Peter Blake, The Ambassadors by Hans Holbein the Younger and Orrey by Joseph Wright of Derby.

The scheme is now in its ninth year and schools in the Haverhill area have benefited throughout, as well as others around the country.

The theme of this year’s paintings was children and learning.

CAPTION: Framed ... Simon Greeb with pupils, left to right, Emma Blakesborough, 12, Nikki Mayes, 12, Joel Atkins, 12, Anna Evans, 13, Kris Leach, 14, Bethany Jameson, and art teachers Hilary Lay and Karen Stamper.
