Key witnesses save police blushes

Thursday, 14th July 2011.

A group of children under ten years old have done police a good turn by finding the lost keys to their police car.

Last Friday evening police made an arrest in Queensway, Haverhill, and in the process managed to lose their car keys.

During the arrest an offender was chased and during the chase a bunch of car keys belonging to the police vehicle were lost.

Roz Hendriks, an admin clerk at Haverhill police station lives opposite the park where the incident occurred, and it was witnessed by her eight-year-old son and his friends, all under ten.

The loss of the keys rendered the police car unusable and it was going to require the locks to be changed.

Mrs Hendriks said: "I suggested to my son that he may like to go and look for the keys, and this he did along with most of the local kids.

"To my amazement and their excitement the keys were found in the hedgerow. It has caused a lot of excitement on the estate with the kids, especially when the police attended to collect the keys from me!"

She has arranged some certificates and goody bags to be made up to reward the children and letters of thanks have been sent by the police to their parents.
