The Men’s Midweek Medal was played at Haverhill Golf Club on Wednesday, March 6. The overall winner was Mick Dalena with an excellent nett 67, trimming his handicap by a shot to 15.

The full results were: Division One, 1 Mike Bennett 79-9-70; 2 Wayne Penman 83-12-71; 3 Gavin Taylor 88-12-76.

Division Two, 1 Mick Dalena 83-16-67; 2 Jonathan Wiseman 83-15-68; 3 John Stokes 86-16-70.

Division Three, 1 Grant Kingston 94-22-72; 2 Paul Mower 102-26-76; 3 Jamie Morse 98-22i-76.

The Ladies Midweek Medal was played following the men’s competition. The clear winner by three shots was Lyn Fish with a superb round of 90-21-69, cutting her handicap by one shot. In second place was Jackie Condon with 88-16-72 (lowest gross) and in third place Sally Price with 99-25-74.

The final of the Ladies Winter Foursomes was played on Thursday, March 7. The teams comprise one high and one low handicap per pair. Denise Walker and Sheila Playle won 5&4 against Sally Price and Gill Richardson.

All the pairs that were knocked out in the first round of this competition went onto compete in the Cinderella Slipper and this final was also played on Thursday.

Doreen Darbey and Chris Grainger beat Val Shipp and Mary Sail on the 19th hole. The match was very close throughout, and it came down to a two-foot putt on the last.

Eamonn Bareham and Mich Calmet, competed in their first round match of the nationally run event, the Men’s Daily Mail Foursomes away to Royston. Despite putting up a good battle, the Haverhill pair lost 3&2 and Royston qualify through to the next round.

The Ladies Saturday Medal was played on Saturday, March 9. Continuing her recent form, Jackie Condon was the runaway winner, carding another great round of 88-16-72. In second place was Lyn Fish with 101-20-81 and in third place Jane Herrington with 104-21-83.

The Men’s first round of the Mail on Sunday was played at Haverhill against a team from The Essex on Saturday. Club captain Gordon Price said: "It was a very close match throughout, which went all the way to the last game on the last hole and unfortunately we lost 3- 2.

"The Essex team played very well, especially as they were not on home ground, however Haverhill had to give shots in four of the five games and could not get far enough in front to cope with giving a shot on the 17th hole."

The full results were (Haverhill team first): Lewis Whiting won 3&2 against Neil Anderson; Jack Bligh lost 3&1 against Connor Worshall; Dave Spittle lost 2 down against Ron Shirley; Michael Perrett won 5&4 against Mark Hanley and Chris Vince lost 2 down against Darren Grace.
