Leisure centre Christmas appeal will help children in hospital

Monday, 9th December 2013.

Haverhill Leisure Centre will be bringing some cheer to local children who will be having a difficult time this Christmas.

Staff at Haverhill Leisure Centre this week launched their Giving Tree Appeal to collect Christmas gifts for children. The gifts will be distributed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital children’s ward in Cambridge.

A Christmas tree, kindly donated by staff, has been put up at the centre and visitors are invited to take a tag which will indicate the age range and sex of the child they should buy a gift for.

James Purkiss, manager of Haverhill Leisure Centre, said: “Many people very thoughtfully give to charities at this time of year but it is often the children who are spending time in hospital who get forgotten.

“Christmas is all about children. We hope people will support our staff by adding one extra gift to their shopping list to help a local child who is going through a tough time this Christmas.

“We think the hospital and care staff do a fantastic job especially during the holiday season where they give up their own time with their family to look after other people’s families and this is our way of also thanking them for what they do for our community.”

To take part in the Giving Tree Appeal just pop into reception at Haverhill Leisure Centre and take a tag from the tree. Buy your present and return it wrapped to reception where staff will keep it until Santa’s helpers make their delivery.

Please return any gifts to reception by Monday, December 16, ready for the centre to load Santa’s sleigh.
