Leisure centre hosts half-term talent contest

Tuesday, 15th February 2011.

Auditions for a new talent contest for five to 12-year-olds get underway on Monday, February 21, at Haverhill Leisure Centre’s indoor play area Kid City.

The Kid City’s Got Talent competition takes its inspiration from TV’s Britain’s Got Talent and the centre is looking for young dancers, singers, musicians, acrobats, jugglers, magicians, and unusual acts to take part.

The final of the competition will take place at Kid City on Friday, February 25, at 2pm and will be judged by Abbeycroft’s chief executive Warren Smyth, Abbeycroft chairman Brian Jones and centre member Bryan Jones.

There will be three heats on Monday, in which the youngsters will get to perform their act for two minutes. The winner of the competition will receive the Kid City’s Got Talent trophy and the two runners-up will be presented with medals.

Laura Flowers, assistant manager of Haverhill Leisure Centre, has organised the event for half term. She said: “I see so many confident young children coming to Kid City and hear their parents talking about their talents, how their son plays guitar, their daughter dances, even stories about talented young magicians.

"So I thought it would be great to showcase some of that talent at Kid City.”

The final will take place from 3pm to 4pm at Kid City’s popular ‘Just Because’ party with wacky races from 4-4.45pm, a disco from 4.45-5.30pm disco.

At the end of the party the winner of the talent competition will be announced. Tickets for the party are £3 and available from the centre’s reception.

The talent competition costs £3 per child to enter. Entry forms can be picked up from Haverhill Leisure Centre reception or downloaded from the Abbeycroft website at www.acleisure.com
