Local genealogy website launched

By Martin Chapman on Wednesday, 8th August 2001.

LOCAL historians keen to trace their family history have a new resource thanks to the Haverhill Family History Group and Haverhill UK.

The website is the culmination of year’s of hard work by local volunteers who have copied the information gathered from the 1891 census of Haverhill. The group hope to add data from the surrounding villages in the near future.

The website also includes a lively message board where enthusiasts can appeal for further information about a family name, the histories associated with it and local residents past and present.

Also included on the site is a history of Haverhill, a photo library, a name archive where stories about names are brought together, and a collection of links to other genealogy websites.

The group which is part of the Suffolk Family History Society will shortly have a computer which has access to the National Burial Index, the 1881 UK census, the 1851 census for Gloucestershire and the full 1891 census of London.

The group meets monthly at 7.30 pm on the second Thursday of every month at the Old Independent Church in Haverhill.

More details can be found on the website by clicking the web link.
