Long day for tennis club's best ladies

Tuesday, 2nd October 2012.

Haverhill Tennis Club held their annual club tournament on a fine but breezy Sunday in August.

Two recent additions to the club, Giuliano Cossu and Sasha Vucetic had a good men's singles match with Giuliano coming out on top as the new champion winning 6-4 6-0.

In the men's doubles, a new pairing of Adam Fowle and Josh Dashwood overcame Rob Jeffs and Ross Tobin in a closely-fought match winning 6-4 6-4.

Long-standing member Marcia Armstrong did battle against current champion young Abi Cartwright-Thomas in the ladies singles final lasting two and three-quarter hours.

With tiebreaks in the first two sets, Abi eased through in the third and so retained her title with a 6-7 7-6 6-0 win.

Marcia was to get her revenge though in the ladies doubles teaming up with Sarah Lee and coming through with a 7-5 6-3 win against the regular pair of Abi Cartwright-Thomas and Lucy Hardwick

Having now been on court for about four hours and with blistered hands Marcia and Abi then joined their respective mixed doubles partners Ian Terry and Adam Fowle in a repeat of last years final.

However Adam & Abi were again much stronger the team, winning comprehensively 6-1 6-1 to retain their title.
