Low-level crime spree as vehicles are targeted

Tuesday, 3rd March 2015.

After months of very low crime in Haverhill, police are reporting a couple of week of increased activity in the form of criminal damage and thefts from cars and homes.

Between 12.30am and 12.50am on Tuesday, February 24, a Ford Focus was set on fire in St Botolph's Way, after having its tyres damaged, causing, in all, £1,500 damage.

Overnight from Monday to Tuesday, February 23 to 24, there were also two incidents where cars had the driver's door bent open and items stolen from inside.

In Rye Court a Fiat was targeted an two sub-woofers and two amplifiers taken, worth £2,000, while in Clements Close a Kia was the target and a Sony hand-held games console worth £30 taken.

Also in Rye Court a Ford people carrier was scratched down the driver's side overnight, on the same night.

Between midday on Sunday, February 22 and 6pm the following Tuesday, a white Giant bike worth £350 was stolen from the rear garden, despite both garden and bike being locked.

A flat in Queen Street was burgled by forcing a door between 10pm on Friday, February 27 and 12.30am next day and £200 in coins taken after it was ransacked.

There was also a spate of damage to vehicles in the early hours of Sunday, March 1, in both Queensway and Western Avenue.

White emulsion paint was thrown over four vehicles and the postbox on the corner of Western Avenue and Ash Grove, while red gloss paint was thrown over one car.
