Make sure you are registered to vote in May election

Monday, 28th March 2011.

With borough and parish elections taking place on Thursday, May 5, St Edmundsbury Borough Council is urging voters in the borough to be ready to have their say.

The deadline for registering to vote is Thursday, April 14. With several bank holidays coming up, residents who are going to be away on election day can apply to vote by post or by proxy.

The deadline for applying for a postal vote is 5pm on Thursday, April 14. The deadline for a proxy vote is 5pm on Thursday, April 21.

Returning officer Geoff Rivers said: “Now is the time to make sure you are registered to vote before the deadline on April 14, and to apply for a postal or proxy vote.

"Poll cards will be sent out from March 28 - if you don’t receive one, you may not be registered. To check, just call 01284 757131 or print off a form from www.stedmundsbury.gov.uk/elections.”
