Makeover for sports facilities

Friday, 21st April 2006.

SPORTS facilities have been given a £5,000 facelift.

St Edmundsbury Borough Council has given Motts Field in Haverhill a makeover, meaning fresher facilities for various teams and referees.

Changing rooms have been redecorated and new benches fitted as part of the work.

Coun Terry Clements, portfolio holder for leisure and sport, said: "The investment emphasises the importance we place on grassroots sport and to the health and well being of everyone in the borough.

"The improvements at Motts Field will make a real difference to the teams who use the popular site and prove that spending does not have to run into millions to have a massive impact."

Four team changing rooms and two rooms for referees were improved.

The council also recently completed work to install new steps for pedestrians opposite Quendon Place in the town. The steps mean walkers using the popular route between the Chalkstone estate and Haverhill's Sports Centre no longer have to scramble up an embankment.
