Man arrested after rape allegation on Recreation Ground

Police arrested a 20-year-old man from Haverhill yesterday as they investigated an allegation of rape from a 19-year-old woman.
Officers were contacted around 2.20am yesterday morning by the woman, who reported she had been raped and robbed by a man on the recreation ground at Recreation Road.
Police attended, located the woman and spoke to her. The 20-year-old man was arrested at an address in Haverhill a short time later and taken into custody at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre, where he was interviewed by officers and then released on police bail until July 19 this morning.
The area where the offence is alleged to have occurred was cordoned off while a forensic examination got underway at the scene. The cordon was lifted be3fore lunchtime yesterday.
Police are asking anyone who may have been in the area around the relevant time yesterday morning, who saw or heard anything that may help the enquiry, to call Det Sgt Stuart Jeans on 01473 613500.
