Man Hurt in Knife Raid

Tuesday, 7th January 2003.

A 27-YEAR-OLD man was injured after he was threatened with knives during an armed robbery at a tyre depot in Haverhill today.

At around 8.15am, two men wearing dark balaclavas went into Ebley Tyre depot in Station Road and demanded that the man, who was alone in the building, hand over money.

The thieves then fled on foot, over the Wratting Road footbridge, with a sum of cash.

Both were white. The first was around 6ft 2in and of skinny build. He was wearing a light jacket, blue jeans and white trainers. The second was slightly shorter, at around 5ft 7in, and was of stocky build.

He was wearing a dark jacket, blue jeans and white trainers.

The 27-year-old man was treated at the scene for his injuries but was not taken to hospital.

Det Sgt Karl Smith, from Haverhill CID, said: "This must have been a terrifying ordeal for the man involved.

"Although he was not seriously injured, he is extremely shaken.

"I would like to appeal to anyone who has information relating to this incident to contact me as a matter of urgency.

"This would have been a busy time, with people starting to make their way to school and work and we are confident that someone will have seen the offenders either prior to the robbery or as they made their escape across the Wratting Road footbridge."

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact Haverhill CID on (01284) 774100 or Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555 111.
