Matthew Hancock MP welcomes latest employment figures in Haverhill

Matthew Hancock MP strongly welcomed today’s local unemployment figures for Haverhill. The figures shows a decrease in those claiming Job Seekers Allowance of 35% compared to the same time last year.

Official statistics state that the number of people unemployed in Haverhill fell from 270 in April 2015 to 175 in April this year, with 95 more residents in work.

In West Suffolk the claimant count fell from 680 to 600 in a year, a decrease of 12% against national figures showing a decrease of 2.7%

Commenting, Matthew said:
“This is excellent news for the community in Haverhill. We traditionally have low unemployment levels as compared to other parts of the country, but there is no room for complacency. We must strive to get everyone who wants a job back into work. These latest figures are another step in the right direction for the people of Haverhill, helping to create positive futures.”
