Meeting aims to get town pastor scheme off the ground

Thursday, 28th April 2011.

A scheme of caring for people enjoying the night-time economy in Haverhill is being put together by representatives of local churches.

Haverhill Town Pastors is a group being formed by Haverhill Churches Together, along the lines of similar groups in Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich and Newmarket.

In those towns volunteers within the schemes look after people who have become vulnerable on the streets, often due to alcohol, during a night out, or even during the day.

A launch meeting has been arranged for Friday, May 6, where anyone interedted in joining the new scheme for Haverhill can find out more about it.

It will be held from 7pm at Haverhill Methodist Church in Camps Road and the organiser/secretary is the missioner at St Mary's Church, Capt Andrew Payne.

Also on hand to talk about the scheme will be Jo Copsey, the co-ordinator of Bury St Edmunds Town Pastors and Liz Beaton, her opposite number in Ipswich.
