More chances to say what you would like Haverhill to become

Monday, 7th February 2011.

People who live and work in Haverhill are being asked to say what sort of place they would like it to be in 20 years' time in a series of open sessions starting at the LEAP Centre on Saturday.

The exercise, which is part of a year-long project being carried out by St Edmundsbury Borough Council, asks people to share their aspirations for practically every aspect of their lives, from job opportunities to leisure, and from care in old age to environmental sustainability

The information gathered will help to establish the long-term vision for Haverhill and when it is finished, a plan for addressing the key issues.

Cllr John Griffiths, leader of St Edmundsbury, said: “Haverhill is now a success story and, with young people making up such a large proportion of the population, its future looks bright.

"Its people are proud of and enthusiastic about the town, as demonstrated in the way they have helped achieve so many major recent improvements in and around the town centre.

"Haverhill Vision 2031 builds on this and asks what people want the town to be like, for them, in 20 years' time.

"Much remains to be done and this is an important opportunity to help shape the town. I strongly commend these events to anyone who has an interest in the future of Haverhill.”

The sessions are on Saturday, February 12, at the LEAP Centre on the high street, between 10am and 4pm; on Monday, March 7. at the Leisure Centre between 4 and 7pm; and on Thursday, March 10, at the New Croft football complex, between 4 and 7pm. There is no need to book, just drop in.
