SPRIGHTLY John Ellis would be the envy of many men, spending his afternoons surrounded by women as the only man at the Ridgewell Friendship Club.
Mr Ellis, 88, is a member of the Haverhill club which has 15 members, all female except for him.
Although he is not worried about being the only man, Mr Ellis would like to see more people come along to enjoy club meetings at the village hall on alternate Wednesday afternoons.
"I used to be the chairman and we used to get about 30 people along there. A lot of them have died and we don't seem to have got many fresh ones.
"I don't know how they stand it but they put up with me and say they miss me if I am not there. We have a good laugh," Mr Ellis said.
A widower for the past 10 years, Mr Ellis suffers from arthritis but still visits friends in America from the former Ridgewell airfield days.
Norah Blane, who leads the group, said the women enjoy making a fuss of Mr Ellis but would like to welcome more men along
