Motorist punched by cyclist after near miss

Wednesday, 22nd January 2014.

Police are appealing for witnesses and would like to speak to a cyclist after an incident involving a bike and a car in Haverhill.

At around 11.30pm on Friday the driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was pulling out of Cambridge Close into Western Avenue, when he sighted a cyclist approaching from the junction with Ash Grove.

The driver stopped the car to avoid a collision, but was then approached by the cyclist and punched through the window.

A further altercation then took place between the two men at the junction of Western Avenue and Withersfield Road, where the victim’s watch came off and was thrown across the street.

The cyclist then returned to his bike and made off down Cambridge Close, at which point the victim flagged down a passing vehicle and contacted the police.

The cyclist is described as a white man, aged between 35 and 40, around 5ft 11in tall, of average build, with short greying hair.

He was wearing a black jumper, dark coloured trousers/jeans and was riding a black-framed mountain bike.

Anyone who believes they know who the cyclist is or who has any information about this incident is asked to contact PC Matt Egan at Haverhill Police Station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
