MP calls for local nominations for rural oscars

Monday, 4th October 2010.

Haverhill's MP Matthew Hancock is supporting the sixth annual Countryside Alliance Awards by encouraging his constituents to nominate a local business for an award.

Nicknamed the ‘Rural Oscars’, the awards celebrate people going the extra mile to ensure that rural Britain’s food and farming industry, small businesses, traditional skills, forward-thinking enterprises and most of all, its people, can flourish.

Matthew said: "These awards are a terrific way for local communities to show their appreciation of those who support our rural way of life in West Suffolk.

"We all know people who work hard to support our communities - without them life would be that bit poorer.

"I would encourage everyone to nominate their favourite local business. It is time that people of West Suffolk got the national recognition they deserves."

The awards have eight categories:
1 Local food Award
2 Village shop or Post Office Award
3 Enterprise Award
4 The Daily Telegraph Traditional Business Award
5 Butcher Award
6 Hunter Rural Hero (over 16)
7 Hunter Rural Hero (15 and under)
8 Grassroots Award for the Countryside Alliance member who has done most to advance rural campaigning in 2010.

The awards are calling for nominations now, so anyone who wants to nominate a rural Oscar can do it at www.countrysideallianceawards.co.uk.
