New appeal for witnesses to Monday's crash

Thursday, 11th February 2010.

Police are renewing their appeal for information following the serious injury car crash on Haverhill bypass on Monday morning.

They particularly want to talk to the driver of a lorry seen shortly before the accident.

The drivers of a silver VW Sharan and a green Renault Clio were trapped after the crash, which happened about 7.15am, and were freed by the fire service.

The man, from Haverhill, was released from the VW and taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge with chest and pelvic injuries, but left hospital that day.

A 17-year-old woman from the local area, who was released from the Clio, suffered multiple, life-threatening injuries and remains in a critical but stable condition at Addenbrooke's.

The road was closed off between the Rowley Hill roundabout and the Days Inn roundabout until 1.35pm.

Police want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or seen either vehicle driving prior to it.

Officers particularly want to trace the driver of a lorry seen shortly before the collision took place. Anyone with information should call PC Ian Jepp at the Bury Roads Policing Unit on 01284 774100.
