New E-fit issued in hunt for attacker

Thursday, 26th August 1999.

A NEW E-fit of the suspected Haverhill sex attacker has been issued as police step up their inquiry to catch the man responsible. The latest E-fit has been released by Suffolk Police because of differences in the descriptions by the two victims.
However, police still believe the crimes were committed by the same man, who is probably local.
Both assaults occurred within a few yards of each other in the area of the Old Railway Line footpath.
A 12-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in the afternoon of July 12.
The schoolgirl helped compile an E-fit of her attacker, which was released last week.
A 48-year-old woman was attacked six days later near the civic amenities refuse site at about 8.20am.
The new E-fit has been compiled using her description of her attacker.
The offender in the second attack is described as a white male, 5ft 9ins tall, of Mediterranean appearance, in his early 20s with short, dark hair. He had a scruffy appearance and staring eyes.
Anyone with information should contact Suffolk Police on (01473) 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
