New leader for college engineering department

Tuesday, 14th September 2010.

Patrick Hamilton has been appointed as head of school of engineering at West Suffolk College. He will be managing and leading the automotive, engineering and mechatronics sections.

Mr Hamilton wrote some of the new QCF automotive units for the Sector Skills Council and has worked with City and Guilds and the IMI Awards Limited as a technical author, writing and developing automotive qualifications.

He said: “I am looking forward to the challenges ahead, working as part of a strong team in very forward-thinking college.

"As soon as I walked through the doors for the first time, I had a sense that this was a very supportive environment, with a strong team ethos.

“It will be exciting working in a college which has strong management structures, especially through the turbulent economic times ahead.”

Before joining West Suffolk College, Mr Hamilton had been at Cambridge Regional College for four years. Before that, he was workshop training manager for a private training provider in Norwich.

Mr Hamilton lives in Norwich with his wife, Sharon. The couple have two daughters - Kirsten, who has just started her A levels, and Jessica, who is in the second year of a degree in design for publishing. Sharon also has two grown-up sons.

Mr Hamilton is chairman for the Institute of the Motor Industry Members Association, Norfolk branch. He enjoys drawing, cycling, meals out and socialising with family and friends.
