New physiotherapy outreach clinics launched in town

Wednesday, 9th July 2014.

West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust has announced that new specialist physiotherapy outreach clinics have been launched in Haverhill to move care closer to people’s homes.

Patients will now be able to access specialist physiotherapy clinics in Haverhill. This means fewer people will have to travel for treatment.

The trust has introduced children’s musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy and adult respiratory physiotherapy clinics.

The first clinics were held at Clements Surgery in Greenfields Way in Haverhill on June 18, following the launch of similar services in Newmarket last year.

The paediatric clinics will provide care for children aged under 16 with a wide range of MSK conditions, including torticollis and plagiocephaly in newborns.

Young people with more complex conditions, such as functional pain disorders, complex regional pain syndrome, dysfunctional breathing problems and chronic fatigue syndrome, can also be treated at the clinics.

Haverhill's MP Matthew Hancock MP said: “This is good news for Haverhill. I am campaigning for better healthcare in Haverhill, and this announcement is another step forward, coming on top of the decision to install an ECG in the town.

"The new outreach clinics will bring services closer to patients’ homes, reducing travelling time and creating a more personal service of care.

"The clinics will help relieve pressure on the local GP practices while simultaneously allowing patients to access specialist treatment on their doorstep. I am pleased by this announcement, but it must signify the start of more improvements to come to help overall healthcare in Haverhill.”
