New sport devised for busy people

Wednesday, 25th January 2012.

A fast and furious new sport based on the traditional game of hockey will be launched at Haverhill Leisure Centre next month.

Rush Hockey is a fast, furious, fun game based on much simpler rules than those of traditional hockey. It can be played indoors or outdoors on smaller pitches. It can be played five-a-side or four-a-side and is designed to fit around the busy lifestyles of today’s sports players.

Haverhill Leisure Centre will be offering a free month-long trial of this brand new sport on Mondays from 7–8pm starting outside on the Astroturf from Monday, February 6. Participants can just turn up in their sportswear and all equipment and a coach will be provided.

If the trial is successful then the centre will offer the session every week for a small charge.

Laura Flowers, assistant manager at Haverhill Leisure Centre, said: “We are always keen to try something different here at the Sports Centre and rush hockey is fantastic for people with busy lifestyles who do not want to play a full traditional game of hockey or belong to a team.

“It is a great stress-buster, physical and a great all round workout," she said. "It has been heralded as a new era for hockey and we hope to attract more people to the game. Plus it is free to try for a month.”
