News of the passing of Councillor Tim Marks

Tuesday, 5th January 2016.

It is with deep regret and shock that I announce the sudden death of Councillor Tim Marks.

As a well-respected man, Tim had a warm and friendly relationship with council members, officers and the communities he served so well. He will be remembered and missed by everyone.

Details are still emerging but it is understood he was on a Development Control Committee site visit in his role as a St Edmundsbury Borough Councillor when he collapsed.

Tim was elected Member of Suffolk County Council for Haverhill Cangle in May 2005. After standing down in 2013, he returned in May 2015 as a popular choice following a local By-election. Tim always served his constituents and the wider Suffolk community with enthusiasm and dedication.

Alongside his divisional responsibilities, Tim served on a range of committees including Health Scrutiny and the Clare Country Park Joint Advisory Committee.

Tim will be remembered for his year as Mayor of St Edmundsbury in 2012/13, when the Rwandan Olympic Team were welcomed to Bury as a training camp before the Olympics.

My thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his widow Cllr Margaret Marks and the family at this difficult time.

Today is a very sad day I’m sure you agree. I understand details regarding funeral arrangements will be released by Tim’s family in due course.

With kind regards, | Colin Noble. | Leader of Suffolk County Counci
