OAP's leader in call for public comment

By Emiko Priest on Thursday, 2nd August 2001.

THE chairman of a pensioner's group is calling for people to get in touch with him to get their views heard.

Frank Bradsell, 81, is the chairman of the Haverhill and District Pensioners' Association.

As a representative for his generation, he is keen to hear the views of other people, particularly regarding the Social Impact Study on the expansion of Haverhill.

Mr Bradsell is worried the voice of the older generation is not being heard.

He is also concerned that he is not representing the true picture of what older people want.

He said: "The problem I've had lately in various meetings is that there is a number of information people, employed by Social Services or employed by the local council, but there are very few people who represent the actual public.

"Apart from that, the problem I've got is that I allegedly speak on behalf of the pensioners. I want older people to say what it is they want so that, even if they do not get to these meetings, at least I've got the information."

With regard to the expansion of Haverhill, Mr Bradsell has made some suggestions with pensioners in mind.

These include shopping facilities to suit the elderly and more local medical services.

The Pensioners' Association deals mainly with local issues and communicates with several different groups, including the town council, borough council, social services and medical groups.

The next meeting is on Tuesday, August 14 from 2pm-4pm at Bevan House, Camps Road, Haverhill. Everyone is welcome. To contact Mr Bradsell, write to him at 36, Roman Way, Haverhill CB9 0NG.
