Officers renew appeal for assault information

Sunday, 21st October 2001.

SUFFOLK Police, yesterday renewed their appeal for information about an indecent assault on a 30-year0old woman in Haverhill last Sunday.

At around 9:30pm, last Sunday a man wearing a balaclava grabbed the 30-year-old woman as she was walking along the footpath the Leisure Centre in Ehringhausen Way, and dragged her to Railway Walk. The man indecently assaulted her before she managed to escape.

Officers yesterday said that they wanted to particularly speak to the occupants of two vehicles that were parked in the Leisure Centres car park at around the time of the incident. The first is described as red sporty-type Ford Fiesta and the other a dark coloured car, possibly a Cavalier.

The woman had been walking through the car park towards the footpath running alongside the Leisure Centre towards the Chalkstone Estate. She is said to have heard a noise coming from behind before the terrifying attack.

Police have described the attacker as around 5ft 10in, of medium build, with a London accent. He had a distinctive "musty" odour and was wearing a dark green wax jacket, dark denim jeans and black gloves.

Anyone with information is asked to call (01284) 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
