Pancake races will raise cash for Haiti

Tuesday, 2nd February 2010.

Families will be taking part in pancake races at Haverhill Leisure Centre on Shrove Tuesday, February 16, to raise money for the Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

Joining families for the races will be Haverhill Leisure Centre’s mascot Scales the dragon.

The pancake races will take place indoors in the main hall and participants will have the chance to win prizes.

As well as a straight course there will also be obstacle races including bouncing balls, hoops and hurdles. Entry is by donation to the Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

Dominic Greenwood, general manager, said: “There cannot be a single person here in Haverhill who has not been affected by the images of the devastating impact that the earthquake in Haiti has caused.

"We thought we would raise some money to send to the Haiti Earthquake Appeal by asking families to make a small donation to take part in the family pancake races.

“People of all ages are welcome to take part. Who knows, maybe we can lose a few pounds before we eat all those pancakes.”

To register your entry in the pancake races contact Haverhill Leisure Centre on 01440 702548 or just turn up on the day. More information on the activities at the centre over February half term can be found at www.acleisure.com
