PCC secures government funding to support e-safety in Suffolk

Wednesday, 23rd March 2016.

Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner, Tim Passmore has successfully secured government funding to help protect and educate young people about the dangers of the internet. The grant of £65,490 comes from the Police Innovation Fund, a pot of money set aside specifically for PCCs.

With the funding in place, Suffolk Constabulary and Suffolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Tim Passmore will work with partners to design and deliver a coordinated and comprehensive programme of e-safety crime prevention advice to support parents, children and teachers alike.

Suffolk’s Police and Crime commissioner, Tim Passmore said, “I am delighted that we have been able to secure the funding to support this very important e-safety project.

“The internet is a very powerful tool , but it is also poses many threats to our young people. I find it really sad that our young people can be subjected to such threats particularly when they are in the perceived safety of their homes.

“It is really important that those who support and guide children as they develop are absolutely aware of the threats that the internet poses. I hope this funding, and the work being done in our schools, will help children to be more aware of the dangers of the web and keep them safe now and in the future.”
