Pensioner threatened by four burglars

Monday, 16th December 2013.

Four men forced their way into a pensioner's house last night and searched it before leaving with two games consoles and a stereo.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following the aggravated burglary on the Clements estate in the early hours of this morning.

They received a report just after 1.15am that a 71-year-old man had been a victim of an aggravated burglary where four men had come into his home and stolen items from him.

At around midnight, the man, who lives in Snowdon Court, heard a bang at his front door. He opened the door and four men forced their way in.

He was punched and pushed to the floor where one of the men threatened him with a knife while the others searched the house.

They left after taking a number of items including two video game consoles and a stereo.

The victim, who was not injured during the incident then left his house and looked for the men, before going to his daughter’s house nearby and then subsequently reporting the matter to the police.

All four men are described as being black, one was big and stocky, the second around 5ft tall, the third slightly taller and wearing a hooded top and the fourth was around 5ft 10in tall and wore gloves.

Police are continuing with their inquiries and visited the victim today and gained a clearer picture of what happened.

House to house visits are being made, but police are very keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and saw the men matching the descriptions.

Anyone who has any information about this incident is asked to contact Bury St Edmunds CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Police say they are treating the matter extremely seriously, while keeping an open mind about it. The incident is extremely unusual and they say it has no recent precedent in the town.
