Pipe in hot form on golf course

The Midweek Medal at Haverhill Golf Club was played on Wednesday, April 14, and it was another successful day for David Pipe winning overall with 73-5-67.

The full results were as follows: Division One, 1 David Pipe 73-5-67; 2 Chris Vince (Jnr) 74-6-68; 3 Mark Stanton 81-12-69.

Division Two, 1 Stuart Haworth 87-17-68; 2 Mark Wells 86-17-69; 3 John Stokes 87-17-70.

Division Three, 1 Derek Olive 95-27-68; 2 Peter Mercer 94-24-70; 3 Jamie Morse 93-22-71.

Immediate past lady captain Doreen Darbey scored another ace on April 13, playing in a friendly game at Haverhill. It was on her ‘favourite’ hole, the par three, 110-yard eighth, using a seven wood.

This is Doreen’s second hole in one, and it follows her previous ace just over a month ago on March 1!

The seniors played in two matches last week, at Royston on Wednesday, April 14, where they won 5-3 and then again the following Friday at home where they lost against Thetford 2˝ - 5˝.

The ladies played their first Weston match at home against Rookery Park on Saturday, April 17. The format was singles matchplay off scratch.

Unfortunately the hosts lost by 3-2 and the results were: Sue Carr lost 5&4, Karen Wilby lost 4&3, Mary Sail lost 2 down, Denise Walker won on the 19th hole and Jackie Condon won 4&2. The return match is away at Rookery Park on July 1.

The International Pairs Event was played on Sunday, April 18. The winners of this nationally run stableford event, David Pipe and Richard Parker, now go onto play in the regional final at Belton Woods in Lincolnshire.

The full results were: 1 Dave Pipe & Richard Parker with 44pts, 2 Kim Ward & Mel Stuart with 43pts, 3 Gordon Price & Derek Thomas with 42pts on countback.

Finally to round the week off, Haverhill won the friendly mixed match against Seckford on Sunday, April 18. It was a clean sweep for the home side, winning 5-0.
