Plea after boy is approached by stranger

Thursday, 2nd August 2001.

A FIVE-year-old boy was approached by a man while playing in his garden.

The incident happened around 9.30pm on Thursday in Bures Court, Haverhill.

The boy was sitting on the garden gate when a man drew up in a silver Ford Fiesta and got out.

He started to walk towards the boy, but when he became aware the child's mother was in the garden, he hurried back to his car and drove off.

The man was coming from the direction of Leather Lane. He is described as white, of plump build, with short dark hair and tattooed arms.

He was wearing a light-coloured, sleeveless T-shirt and dark-coloured tracksuit bottoms.

Although no offences have been committed, police would like to speak to this man to find out the reasons for his actions.

Anyone with information should call Suffolk police on (01284) 774100 or ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
