Police appeal after girl, 12, is chased by man

Thursday, 23rd August 2001.

POLICE are appealing for information after a 12-year-old girl was accosted in Haverhill on Wednesday evening.

The incident happened at around 8pm when the girl was riding her micro scooter along a footpath leading from Withersfield Road towards Gurling Close.

The girl spotted a man sitting on some bollards behind B&B Stores at the end of Chapple Drive.

As she drew closer he shouted at her to go over to him. When she ignored him the man chased her on to Minster Road before she made her escape and returned home.

The man was white, aged betwen 45-50, 5ft 8in to 5ft 11in, of skinny build with untidy blond hair and a bushy white beard.

He was wearing a white short-sleeved shirt, torn at the sleeve, dark coloured trousers, and was carrying several carrier bags with him.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any other information to come forward.

They should contact Suffolk police on (01284) 774100 or Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555 111.
