Police Discovered Weapons Arsenal

Friday, 7th October 2005.

Martial arts fanatic Paul Murcott was discovered to have an arsenal of weapons at his home after police arrested him for sending threatening messages to a former partner.

Murcott, 39, was jailed for four months, suspended for two years, by magistrates after he admitted charges of putting a person in fear of violence and criminal damage.

Magistrates were told that police found a crossbow, numerous samurai swords, Nazi daggers, butterfly knives, throwing stars and a replica Colt pistol at Murcott's home in Willow Close, Haverhill.

The court heard he had left abusive telephone messages for a former girlfriend telling her she was "going to get it", and had thrown a pint glass at her car.

Alan Caldwell, matigating, said the weapons were ornamental and acquired through Murcott's fascination with martial arts.

Murcott was also made subject of a two-year supervision order to address his alcohol and drug dependencies and his attitude to women.

He was also ordered to pay £200 compensation for damaging the woman's car.
