Police get to work on the new priorities voted for by public

Monday, 14th April 2014.

Police in Haverhill have been meeting representatives of schools in the town to talk about options for parking near them, an issue which was agreed as a priority at a recent public meeting.

Snce the priority was adopted in March, numerous patrols have been carried out by police at the schools both in uniform and plain clothes to see what is actually taking place.

The main focus of police action will be at Samuel Ward, Place Farm and St Felix/Burton End. By the end of term 22 warnings had been issued to motorists.

Earlier this month police held a meeting at ther police station with representatives from the schools in Haverhill to discuss parking options/ideas and as a result of this they collated a number of actions to take away and work on.

They have also been speaking with the highways agency at Suffolk County Council to see what improvements could be made to the roads to ease traffic congestion.

The March public forum of the Safer Neighbourhood Team chose three priorities for police to concentrate over the next three months, the other two concerning drug issues.

One was in the areas of the Recreation Ground and Castle Walk, and there police had, up to last week, carried out 20 uniformed patrols, made two arrests and carried out six stop searches and three stop encounters.

The other priority concerned intelligence and enforcement around drug-related assaults on the Clements and Chalkstone estates.

In pursuit of that objective, police have executed four search warrants, carried out 18 uniform patrols of the relevant areas and four plain clothed patrols, and identified 12 possession of cannabis offences, three possession with intent to supply drugs and two possession of class A drugs.
