Police seek help over double assault

Tuesday, 7th October 2014.

Police are asking for help from the public in establishing how two people came to be assaulted within five minutes of each other in Leather Lane on Friday night, October 3.

The incidents took place at 10.50pm and 10.55pm and police want to find out if they are connected.

The first saw a man punched on the nose by an unknown attacker, described as white, 6ft tall, of medium build with brown stubble and wearing a black top, blue jeans and white Nike trainers, who asked for a cigarette before launching the unprovoked attack.

Five minutes later a young man was assaulted, suffering a cut lip and a cut to the back of the hand.

He had been walking home, intoxicated, when he was hit in an unprovoked attack by an unknown male of whom he could provide no description.

The incidents were not reported by the victims but by another member of the public.

Haverhill's police chief, Insp Peter Ferrie, said they would like to hear from anyone who saw anything at around that time, or who knows what the incidents might have been about.
