Police warn taxi-drivers after thefts from vehicles

Monday, 16th April 2012.

Haverhill police have issued a warning to taxi-drivers after three have been targeted by thieves.

Two thefts from unlocked taxis occurred over the last few days and police are linking them, possibly along with another theft from a taxi three weeks ago, which was committed by smashing a window.

Overnight Thursday and Friday some personal items were taken from a taxi parked in Thurlow Place.

Then yesterday, around 8.30pm, a cash bag was taken from a taxi dropping off a fare in Harrow Road.

Sgt Sarah Bartley of Haverhill Safer Neighbourhood Team urged taxi-drivers to be more careful.

"Please don't leave your vehicles insecure, and please don't leave money or valuables lying around visible in them," she said.

She said the thefts were being linked, and may possibly be connected with an incident in Chauntry Road three weeks ago when the window of a locked taxi parked outside a house was smashed and a bag of cash stolen.
