Pupils wade through mud for GCSE

By Martin Chapman on Thursday, 12th October 2000.

RECENTLY drama pupils from the sixth form worked with Michael Platt of Suffolk Dance on characterisation in The Caucasian Chalk Circle.

The pupils though the workshop was excellent because Michael was full of energy.

To celebrate National Poetry Day, the school held a poetry competition last Thursday. The three categories were most original, best read and best illustrated. Another competition was also held where pupils were asked to match poems to teachers. Teachers in the school had been choosing their favourite poems.

Two groups of Year 10 students, kitted out with wellington boots, waded through marshy mud to investigate the effects of fertilisers on wildlife at Carlton Marshes near Lowestoft. The results they collect will be used for their GCSE coursework next year. Volunteers from Suffolk Wildlife Trust were on hand to give advice, identification and a helping hand out of the water.

Year 11 have started their Maths GCSE coursework this week.

Last week also saw the first school council meeting and the awards evening to celebrate student success of the past year will be held this evening.
