Reds boss Boyle quits the Croft

Thursday, 28th October 1999.

HAVERHILL Rovers' co-boss Lee Barrett has assumed the sole managerial reins following Danny Boyle's resignation earlier this week.
A club statement said Boyle, who had been in the job for a year, offered his resignation "following a succession of poor results".
Barrett will be assisted by Harry Pidgeon and Mark Sharp.
Ray Esdale, press officer for the Hamlet Croft outfit, said: "It's a shame to lose him because he's a good bloke, very much a club man.
"He did a lot of work behind the scenes."
The reds are currently languishing in the lower reaches of the Jewson League's first division after collecting a three-point haul just once so far this season.
Off the field news may have dominated this week, but on the park, Rovers shared the spoils with Chatteris at the Croft on Saturday as the visiting Lillies earned a 1-1 draw with a bizarre equalizer.
Tony Botten put Haverhill ahead after 26 minutes, but Chatteris netted their somewhat unusual equaliser midway through the second half.
Rovers goalkeeper Simon Youngs saw his punch rebound off the back of Gary Alexander's head, past him and over the line.
Danny Boyle appeared in Sudbury Magistrates' Court on Wednesday of last week charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a police officer with intent to resist arrest, causing actual bodily harm to a police officer, failing to provide a specimen and assaulting a special constable.
The hearing was adjourned until November and he was granted conditional bail
