Response from public 'good' after sex attacks

Thursday, 29th July 1999.

POLICE hunting a sex attacker who struck twice in one weekend say they have had a good response from the public, but appeal for anyone else who can help to come forward.
Suffolk Police believe the same man indecently assaulted a 12-year-old girl early on the evening of Friday, July 16, and a 48-year-old woman on the morning of Sunday, July 18, both in the same area of Haverhill near the railway walk and civic amenity site.
Det Insp John Barnett said: "At the moment we are pleased with the response we have received from members of the public, but if anybody has any doubts or concerns about anyone we would be pleased to hear from them," DI Barnett said.
The descriptions given were very similar, both of a man in his early 20s, 5ft 9in tall, of athletic build, tanned or Mediterranean in appearance with short dark hair, heavy eyebrows and stubble. On the second occasion he was wearing a dark red T-shirt, white shorts and trainers.
Anyone with information should ring (01473) 6132500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
