Rock Musical Success at Castle Manor

By R Lester on Saturday, 28th July 2007.

Castle Manor Business and Enterprise College staged the musical 'Return to the Forbidden Planet' to fully packed audiences on 18th and 19th July. Rock 'n' Roll Music reverberated around the Main Hall as pupils gave a performance to remember of this space-age musical based on Shakespeare’s 'The Tempest'.

Bob Carlton’s musical is set in the future on a space ship and sees Captain Tempest and his crew venture into hyperspace and beyond. This musical bursts with red-hot rock and roll hits that got the audience’s feet tapping, including Great Balls of Fire, Good Vibrations, Teenager in Love, The Young Ones and The Monster Mash.

It was an energy-packed show featuring a robot, roller-skates, video feeds, smoke machines, a futuristic set and a live band. The students’ exhilarated audiences with impressive performances of Rock 'n' Roll songs, dance numbers and dramatic scenes.

The show was performed in the Castle Manor’s Main Hall, which has had a recent £30,000 refurbishment, and was the first full-scale production seen at the College for over 10 years.
