Rotarians don their boots to raise £1,000 for charity

Wednesday, 24th November 2010.

A group of members from Haverhill & District Rotary Club along with partners, friends and dogs took advantage of the good autumn weather completed a 10km sponsored walk along footpaths on the Essex/Suffolk border.

The £1,000 raised will go towards the Rotary International’s PolioPlus campaign to eradicate polio worldwide.

This campaign has been running for several years with the aim of raising $200 million worldwide to match funding of $355 million provided by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The funds raised are being used to support immunisation programmes in developing countries where polio still continues to infect and paralyse children.

Every Rotary Club is asked to make a contribution to this campaign alongside raising funds for local and national charities and Haverhill Rotary Club is very pleased to support this worthwhile cause.

The Club would like to thank all those who took part in the walk, Rotarian John Senior for organising it, all those who supported the walkers with donations and Hannah and Paul at the Red Lion, Belchamp Otten, who provided refreshments before and after the event.
